One of the final activities of the week celebrating Lawton’s 117th birthday and rodeo week will be the Birthday and Rodeo Parade in downtown Lawton.
The Parade will start at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday August 12, the last day of the Lawton Ranger’s rodeo. Line up will begin at 8:00 A.M. in the north end of Central Mall. A check in area will be located at the corner of D Ave. and 5th Street. Entries will be lined up on C Ave. between 5th and 6th Streets, along 5th Street between C and E Avenues. The only Mall entrance that will be closed will be D Avenue.
All individuals, businesses, civic groups, school groups, military units, riding clubs, and political candidates are welcome to enter. Political candidates will be charged a $100 entry fee. All other entries are free.
A $500 Grand Award will be given to the entry that best represents theme of this year’s parade, “Strength Through Our Families”. The Lawton Rangers are dedicating this year’s rodeo and parade to the Military Spouse. Three other awards of $150 will be given to the best Riding Club, Best Float, and Best Marching unit.
Other Parade activities will be contests for best dressed Cowboy, Cowgirl, and Rodeo Clown for kids under six beginning 9:30 at the reviewing stand in front of City National Bank. The Marlow Gunfighters will be performing at the reviewing stand after the kids contests.
The parade will travel west down C Ave. passed City Hall to 9th Street, then South to D Ave. The parade will turn east on D Avenue, pass the reviewing stand between 5th and 6th Streets, and return to the Mall parking lot.
