The Lawton Rangers was originally formed as the Buckaroo Club and had its first Rodeo in 1938
The club utilized the old county fairgrounds located just north of the Fairmont Creamery building at that time.
In 1944 the county sold the fairground property and the buckaroo club disbanded. 6 of the original members, decided to
form a new club and it was incorporated as the Lawton Rangers on Oct 26, 1944. These 6 members put in $500.00 each
towards a down payment on a piece of property located on South 11th Street, just North of Surplus City. A new arena
was constructed there.
The land where this arena was located was due to be redeveloped by the City of Lawton. There became a need for a new
arena site. In 1958 the club purchased 40 acres where the current LO ranch is located. A new arena was constructed and
the first Rodeo was held in the late 1960’s. Over the years this arena has come to hold 9000 spectators. Our rodeo is
one of the largest held in Oklahoma and one of the Top 40 in the country.
In 2007 the Lawton Rangers received the prestigious honor of becoming the Centennial Riding Club of the State of
Oklahoma. The Rangers rode in parades all over the state promoting Rodeo. The highlight of being the Centennial
Riding Club was riding in the Centennial Parades In Guthrie and Oklahoma City.
Besides the rodeo the Lawton Rangers are involved in numerous charities and civic events, such as the Lawton Rangers
scholarship program, the Saddle & Sirloin Club, Comanche County Spring Livestock Show.
The Lawton Rangers have been a part of Lawton’s birthday celebration since the beginning of the club. The Rodeo
coincides with Lawton’s birthday. The Rangers have enjoyed serving a large breakfast to the public for years, it is a
highlight of the celebration.
Including the current president, Delbert Warren the rangers has had 34 Presidents. The club elected its first Queen in
